It is a known fact that handmade jewelry designed items usually sell because of their beautiful unique touch ,But at low economy times like today, when the prices of Gold and Platinum have gone sky high, one may consider the fact that it is more worth while to buy handcrafted artisan jewelry made of sterling silver than more expensive metals such a gold.
You will learn that all shops who sold gold in the past are trying to buy any old (or what they call sometimes “broken”gold)they can get from the public, because while ab0ut ten years ago the price of gold was something like $245.00 for 1 ounce, the price for the same amount of gold nowadays has risen to more than $1600.00 per ounce.
I think you will agree with me that this fact will make you consider thinking twice before buying gold jewelry. When you wish to add a unique handmade jewelry item to your collection, or buy a gift for a friend or spouse, it makes sterling silver jewelry more appealing.
It is more so because where the price is lower both for the manufacturer, and the customer. You may say : “I’ll buy a 9k gold ornament instead” . Well, it is true that there is cheaper gold such as 9k gold, which is mixed with alloys too, but this gold is rather pale and is not as beautiful as the high Karat gold, and in many occasions jewellers try to add color to it by gold plating it with 22k gold plate. So what you get in this case is a relatively cheap item with “makeup” which comes off after a while.
For all the above reasons it is interesting to note that more andmore marrying couples go to the altar with sterling silver bands rather than the classic gold ones.
In the past – customers would prefer gold jewelry to sterling silver, because even though the price of gold was always much higher than that of silver, they could afford it. Today, when basic necessities come first, the option of choosing sterling silver for one’s jewelry collection is a much wiser option.

When I first saw a Free form cut Koroit Opal stone, I was immediately drawn to design a piece of jewelry with it. The richness of colors was so stunning and intrigueing, I could not help it. I just HAD to set the stone into a ring or necklace. As you may already know I create handcrafted artisan jewelry and sell it online on
Here is some in information I collected about this stone:
The Koroit Opal field is an opal mining area in Paroo shire in southwest Queensland, Australia. It is located about 80kilometers north northwest of a place called Cunnamulla.
It is not a town. There is no electricity or running water there. It, however, is not the town of Koroit in rural western Victoria Australia.
The Koroit opal field is known for the very distinctive type of boulder opal that is found in its mines.
There is a big difference between Koroit opals and the opal doublets. Doublets are manufactured by glueing thin pieces of Opal onto a stone or plastic backing, while Koroit and boulder opals are totally natural products.
Precious opal forms in veins and patches within brown ironstone boulders. Matrix opal is when the opal is mixed through the ironstone.
A Boulder opal has an ironstone backing and therefore it is very durable
Many of my handmade jewelry designs are created from Koroit Opal stones.
