I have recently come across a photograph of a painting from the 16th century by Scottish artist Adrian Vanson, of Queen Anne of Denmark.

Queen Anne was the consort of King James VI of Scotland and a great lover of Art.

What had captured my eye were, among other admirable objects in this painting, her teardrop pearl earrings:

This painting has reminded me of a pair of quality teardrop pearls I have bought recently, and so I hammered two pieces of sterling silver into the shape of small flowers, added the pearls to dangle from them, looked at them and was rather satisfied with the outcome:

Riorita - Teardrop pearls and silver flower earring studs

I guess what I have left to say here is : “Wear my teardrop pearl and silver earrings and look like a queen!!!”

So – this is exactly what I am saying!

Made with love,

About 10 days ago I’ve listed a sterling silver necklace with a replica ancient coin of Goddess Athena, from the Greek Mythology, in my Etsy shop. Inspite of the fact that I always use authentic ancient coins in my jewelry designs, I have used as an exception a REPRODUCTION silver coin which I set in a sterling silver pendant. I hung it on a “snake” sterling chain to create a necklace.

On the back of the coin you will find the image of an owl which is Athena’s symbol.

According to the Greek Mythology, Pallas Athena was the daughter of Zeus, and she was not born from a woman like all beings, but had leaped from Zeus’s head, clothed with her armor.

Metis was Zeus’s first wife a She was most intelligent and knowledgeable of all beings . A short while before giving birth to the Goddess Athena, Zeus deceived somehow and assimilated her into his own body. He did this to prevent any of his descendants from robbing him of his high rank ,as it was destined that Goddess Metis would give birth to the most brilliant children.

The city of Athens in Greece is named after her. she is the protectress of civilized life, of art and agriculture.

Her armour was given to her by Zeus himself, as she was his most favorite offspring.

She is mostly described as ” the bright eyed”.

She was one of three virgin goddesses in the Greek Mythology – the Parthenos – After which was named the famous Parthenon temple in Athens, Greece.

In poetry she is described as the symbol of Wisdom, Reason and Purity.
She created the OLIVE TREE, and the OWL is a symbol of her consecrated birth.

It is true that one of the reasons I used this reproduced coin is that I love it for its beauty. Nevertheless there is another reason – I have always appreciated the fact that the Ancient Greeks chose a female figure as a symbol of wisdom. It is a sad truth that even today, when we consider ourselves to be modern human beings, while women could have contributed so much of their talent and love to this world, they are still under estimated. Those women who do get to rank high in our public life, have to fight hard to get there. How shameful!
