This week’s featured Etsier (September 16th, 09)

When did you start to craft?
When I was 15 years old we received Swiss knitting catalogues with wonderful knitted sweaters, so I started knitting my own sweaters in various designs and colors. After that I went on by sewing my own clothes, crocheted tablecloths, embroidered blouses and runners, and finally – started to design handcrafted jewelry.

How did you hear about Etsy and when did you join?
My friend Janine who has a shop on Etsy too, came to visit me at my studio and told me about Etsy. A few days later I opened my Etsy shop. This happened on January 28th 2008.
What kind of market is your work geared towards?
I try to reach people who like artistic and handcrafted jewelry, who like my ideas. In order to reach a larger range of people, I try to make my prices as reasonable as possible.

What types of crafts/artwork do you do?
Right now I concentrate on metalcraft, mostly in handcrafted Silver and Gold, using prescious and semi-prescious stones, pieces of glass , sea glass etc., Once in a while I try to draw and paint, but I still have a lot of studying to do.

What kinds of materials do you like to work with?
I mostly like to use silver sheet metal. I either repoussee it, hammer of forge it, and I love to use three dimension forms, by using solders. I also carve in wax and have a few jewelry items cast.

What are your inspirations?
I am inspired by almost everything I see around me. My handmade jewelry workshop is situated in a wonderful pastoral area, where I am surrounded with either fruit trees like pomegranates , lemons, Bananas, Olives, and by bushes of flowers, or just leaves.I also see there cute animals such as cats, dogs, geese, peacocks. As I see many artist statues around me I am also inspired by various free forms.

Words of wisdom from riorita!
My advice to other crafters - Always create with love in your heart for what you do. Never be envious of other people’s work or talent, because you have your own unique talent which belongs to you only. Never copy other people’s work, but you may definitely be inspired! If someone imitates or copies your work, be forgiving and do not take it to heart, take it as a compliment and just say to yourself: ” I can always do something newer and better!”
We love your store, where else can we find you?
Right now I concentrate on selling on Etsy, but I also exhibit my work for sale in various galleries in Israel. My favorite gallery is The main Ein Hod Artist’s village gallery in Israel.
I have a guest site there too: http://imjewelry.net I also have the following sites:

I met riorita on the Etsy forums during a store promotion. She likes her work to look 3-dimensional or sculptural to add that little bit of flare you are always looking for to stand out. Her work is stunning and original and I highly recommend her as a seller if you are looking for unique beautiful jewelry!
Here is a little bit more about her:)

Where are you from?

I live on Mount Carmel in Haifa, a city located in Israel, by the Meditteraenean .
