Natural rosecut Sapphire and silver ring

  • September 14, 2012 5:30 PM

Did I say I did not find a  Sapphire in my stone collection ? well, I looked again, and lo and behold Рthere it was Рa large freeform scarlet red Sapphire with a rosecut surface. It looks very much like a Ruby, but it is really a Sapphire.

I thought to myself: “Necklace or ring?” …then decided – ring! I realized that this beautiful stone needed to be shown in itself, without too many decorations around it, but I did not wish to just set it in a bezel and leave it at that, so I set it on a piece of 0.7 thick sterling silver top and left a large margin around it:

Freeforem Silver Flower Earrings with Tourmaline cabochons

  • September 7, 2012 5:38 PM

A few days ago I returned from a 3 day trip to Venice. The sights and sounds, the great art of Tizian, Tintoretto, Veronese and many more, The people, the shops ,cafes and restaurants… the colors – are all still on my mind and in my heart!

So here I was back in my Studio, thinking what I should do next. I guess the romantic atmosphere of Venice had created a need in me to handcraft a pair of handmade earrings with flowers and ancient colors in them. I found two Tourmaline cabochons and decided to create a pair of silver flower earrings with these stones set in them. One of the cabochons is a beautiful wine color, and the other, which is the same size – about 9mm – in a blue green hue. The colors of these stones look as though they were taken from the wonderful paintings used by the great masters who have overwhelmed me in the churches of Venice. Here they are for you to judge:

I made two loops in sterling silver from a wire with the thickness of 15mm and bent them in a few random places to create a wavey freeform effect. Then I hammered them and added the bezeled Daffodils in their ends. I added two hammered ear studs which complement the hammered design, Oxidized the flower and finally set the stones.

The result is a pair of lovely dangle earrings.
