My Love Affair with Koroit Opal stones
When I first saw a Free form cut Koroit Opal stone, I was immediately drawn to design a piece of jewelry with it. The richness of colors was so stunning and intrigueing, I could not help it. I just HAD to set the stone into a ring or necklace. As you may already know I create handcrafted artisan jewelry and sell it online on
Here is some in information I collected about this stone:
The Koroit Opal field is an opal mining area in Paroo shire in southwest Queensland, Australia. It is located about 80kilometers north northwest of a place called Cunnamulla.
It is not a town. There is no electricity or running water there. It, however, is not the town of Koroit in rural western Victoria Australia.
The Koroit opal field is known for the very distinctive type of boulder opal that is found in its mines.
There is a big difference between Koroit opals and the opal doublets. Doublets are manufactured by glueing thin pieces of Opal onto a stone or plastic backing, while Koroit and boulder opals are totally natural products.
Precious opal forms in veins and patches within brown ironstone boulders. Matrix opal is when the opal is mixed through the ironstone.
A Boulder opal has an ironstone backing and therefore it is very durable
Many of my handmade jewelry designs are created from Koroit Opal stones.

Amethyst – The February Birthstone and friends
Hi everyone,
I’d like to tell you a few things about the February birthstone Amethyst, and show off some of my new handmade rings with this stone:
Here is what we learn about Amethysts stones:
Amethyst is formed from a purple variety of quartz and is used in jewelry. The name comes from the Ancient Greek ἀ a- (“not”) and μέθυστος methustos (“intoxicated”), The ancint Greeks believed that Amethys protected its owner from being drunk. the ancient Greeks and Romans created drinking vessels from Amethysts and wore it believing that it would protect them from being intoxicated.
As for people of today : According to old beliefs and legends worldwide, amethyst is considered to make the wearer calm and in control of his various emotional levels.
I do not know if this is true or not, but one cannot ignore the mystic beauty of it.
